“Technology has been a blessing in countless ways, but when politics gets in the way, it often becomes a tool for corruption and data abuse.”— Garcus Gallo, participant.
Despite the rise of digital technologies, many Nigerians remain unaware of their #digitalrights and legal ...protections. This lack of awareness increases vulnerability to exploitation and privacy breaches.
To bridge this gap, we hosted a Digital Rights Roundtable with 30 participants, including journalists and CSO representatives in @nasarawagovt. The session focused on the Nigeria Data Protection Act (2023) and the Nigerian Data Protection Regulation (NDPR), deepening understanding of consent, privacy, and the risks of digital exposure.
A major takeaway was the need to simplify and localize the NDPA for grassroots access. Participants emphasized that wider awareness is essential to building an inclusive digital rights culture. CSOs were urged to amplify awareness at the community level, while media practitioners were encouraged to use their platforms to spotlight violations and demand reforms.
“It’s not just journalists, content creators too are at risk of data breaches if they don’t understand the Data Protection Act properly.”—Akaa Esther, participant.
As Nigeria moves forward digitally, tools like #Ripoti are key to helping citizens report violations and safeguard their digital future.

This is the reality for many journalists in Nigeria, forced into hiding, threatened, and reminded that their lives are expendable.
Without #freepress, there can be no true democracy.

Civil society organizations exist for a reason, but we must also recognize that there are societal challenges we can’t solve. That’s why government exists.” — @gbainde
At #FailFaire, we’re reminded that hitting a brick wall isn’t failure, it’s redirection.
“I ...have never failed. When a path doesn’t take me to my goal, I don’t stop, I rethink, rework, and reroute.” - @drjoeabah
Failure isn’t the opposite of success. It’s part of the process. Let’s keep learning, adapting, and building stronger systems together.

To strengthen the impact and national recognition of the #integrityicon campaign, we recently held a strategy meeting with 31 key stakeholders, including representatives from government agencies, civil society, and the media in partnership with the @smyfoundation and the @icpcnigeria.
The ...session provided an opportunity to reflect on the campaign’s eight-year journey, assess its impact, identify gaps, and explore ways to scale its reach and reinforce partnerships that promote integrity in public service.
Participants acknowledged the #IIN campaign as a timely and effective response to the ongoing challenges in governance and #ethicalleadership. They emphasized that while the changes may appear small, consistently celebrating integrity can drive long-term cultural change.
One key recommendation was to create meaningful, non-financial incentives for public servants who demonstrate integrity. These could include formal recognition, institutional awards, or leadership development opportunities.

#CNII is about protecting Nigeria’s digital life, from ID and money to voting and health, but if done wrong, it can silence truth, shield corruption, and put everyone at risk.
That’s why protection must come with rights, clarity, and accountability. The same law that secures our ...systems should not punish journalists, whistleblowers, or civic actors.
Let’s build #cybersecurity with integrity, inclusion, and the public interest at the center.
